Power Reserve

Two excellent pictures, as always Fx! I recently handled the RG version at my AD and I can see why it would appeal to a certain audience; however I miss the power reserve too much! Does the day of week change instantaneously at midnight similar to the L1 ...

Good question. I hope someone who knows will respond. And I hope...

... the day indicator does jump instantaneously. It'd be annoying otherwise!

No, it doesn't change instanteneously like the Lange 1 PC

To be more precise: When I handled this Daymatic: the day hand moves slowly a bit before midnight and jumps a few minutes after to get its right position. In the meantime, as you know, the date wheel starts to move and gets its position after the day hand...

I like it....

To my mind it's the finest automatic movement Lange has produced, with all due respect to the Lange-o-matic. Their best-quality balance and in-house spring, lovely decoration, solid gold rotor with solid platinum edge. I even like the dial. Don't understa...

I sure will!

.... Visuals on the left, and text on the right. That could explain the popularity of Lange 1's dial vs the Daymatic. Between the two, I personally prefer the traditional Lange 1 too.

Me too Fernando...

But the objective of the central rotor movement is to get the usual power reserve of the Lange 1 with a rather thin movement. Anyway, I would have loved to see a Lange 1 with a sax-o-mat movement. Fx

Agree, that would have been cool.

I really like the Sax-o-mat movement with the micro rotor. Of course my only Lange automatic, an Anniversary, has that movement, which might bias my opinion.

We also have to consider that...

The sax-o-mat was designed to have central hands. Using it for a Lange 1 would oblige to fully redesign it. By the way, the Langegamatik Anniversary is a stunning watch, congrats! Fx

Thank you FX.

I really love the watch. Not only is it drop dead beautiful, but also very versitile; like the WG 1815 Chrono (esp. the original model) it can be worn anywhere with anything, especially if one changes from the black strap.

The design is fine

but I suppose a "simple" Wochentags-Automatik function is not enough, for the collectors. And the retrograde day display is not just enough complication. An annual calendar would have been the best solution for such a watch and who knows maybe Lange will ...

They ruined the design I think.

The original design made time the central element and everything else complementing the layout in an interesting manner. When you look at the original, you lay eyes on the main time dial first. I think with the Daymatic, the main dial shrunk, or shrunk in...
