Some Grand Seiko love & photography...

As someone who has a healthy appreciation of under 40mm vintage timepieces, it isn’t easy to find timepieces in the 35-40mm spectrum in the modern production catalog across all and every brand - what i call the 'vintage-esque’ watches. Grand Seiko, and this is my personal opinion, fills that gap brilliantly with theirs. Having acquired SBGW047 - the 44GS re-issue, last year - strongly advocated by collector friends, the H-case vintage gave me enjoyment but I wasn’t quite sold on GS yet. So last week in Tokyo I had ample opportunity to review what was available, and simply fell over my feet after trying on SBGW031 (36mm, manual winding) and SBGM021(39.5mm GMT). In an era where brands put small movements in big cases to achieve the (apparently) statistically market-sought-after sizes of 42-44mm, it is refreshing GS achieves what I feel to be the ‘natural’ well-proportioned dial & case size of 36-40 mm for a human wrist (clearly with size restrictions, although as clearly this can be and has been stretched) on the classic end of the watch design & aesthetics spectrum. The large crown, and pronounced dome crystal adds to the thickness, giving it about 11mm, more or less, and for me a nod towards modern sizes. My 2 cents. Some photography inspired by getting all three pieces together.
