RICHARD LANGE – The observation watch for the wrist

Right on time for the start of spring, A. Lange & Söhne presents a special edition of the RICHARD LANGE in white gold and with blued steel hands. From April 2013, this new variation is available exclusively at the boutiques of the traditional Saxon watch brand.

The new RICHARD LANGE in white gold in the A. Lange & Söhne Boutique Dresden.

In 2006, A. Lange & Söhne revived the grand tradition of scientific observation watches with the launch of the RICHARD LANGE. They were once indispensable in navigation and as precision instruments for scientists. Reduced to the function of exact time measurement, the new boutique edition of the three-hand watch with sweep seconds comes in a white-gold case for the first time, with the familiar diameter of 40.5 millimetres. Hands in blued steel over an argenté-coloured solid-silver dial assure excellent high-contrast legibility of the time.

Eminently legible thanks to blued steel hands: The RICHARD LANGE in white gold

The RICHARD LANGE pays tribute to Ferdinand A. Lange's eldest son. During his entire life, the long-tenured technical director of the manufactory focused on evolving precision watchmaking on the basis of scientific research. The balance spring is a manifestation of what is no doubt his greatest achievement. In 1929, he recognised that the addition of beryllium to the nickel-steel alloy made hairsprings less susceptible to temperature fluctuations and simultaneously more elastic. Richard Lange's insight, for which a patent was granted in the following year, resulted in a quantum leap in precision and expedited the development of a timepiece category that defines itself in terms of accuracy: the observation watch.

The RICHARD LANGE was inspired by the characteristic traits of its historic predecessor and re-interprets them with contemporary panache. With its white-gold case and the exquisite finissage of the movement, it is a very accurate observation wristwatch that befits our era. This special edition of the RICHARD LANGE is available exclusively through the A. Lange & Söhne boutiques. Only a few pieces can be handcrafted per year.

Exquisite movement finish and no pictures of it? But what they are thinking, at Lange

 By: amanico : April 2nd, 2013-06:35
When they write their press release? Honestly, I am very dubitative with this special boutique edition. What is special, here? The white gold case instead of platinum? They downgraded the watch with a less noble material. The heated blue hands for a bette...

I understand your criticisim, Nico. But...

I still drool when I see this dial with blue hands. Legibility is an issue for some of us. And the blue hands over silver dial do not only solve the legibility aspect but are also a beautiful combination that reminds me of my gone 1815. Will the platinum ...

No, not another watch a la 5153g please: how shall this work?

Albeit Lange is using antireflective coating on the saphire I can not imagine how black roman numerals on a black or grey dial can look like. To make it work at least a little the numerals have to be corpuscular, which will not fit to the concept of a RL....

Hi Nicolas I totally agree with you on these 2 points....

 By: Sandgroper : April 3rd, 2013-00:37
Firstly, writing "the exquisite finissage of the movement" without the slightest picture of it is a little bit much. Secondly, I have always been very fond of the Richard Lange, I find it very elegant and the Romain numbers give it character, my preferenc...

Those utter bastards

I think the target market for this press release knows what the movement looks like. Just my opinion. I've got the PT, don't have an issue with this one. Blued hands are very nice but also a tad cliche. I like the rhodium hands.

A really superb and i would say VERY special piece

Without a doubt i would recommend it highly to anyone who does not own a RL yet and would like something a little more exclusive. Heck, i would get it myself were the case to be in Pt. Tschuss Stephen

I have mixed emotions.

As a stand alone watch, it is gorgeous. As a part of the Richard Lange line, I think it is a missed opportunity. The use of the WG case would have been the perfect context for a slate/black dial to propose something really different. I think that I didn't...

WG Slate/black

If it had been a WG Slate or WG black dial combination, I would be booking my flight to the Palm Beach boutique today! Alas, my mind is still yet undecided which RL will be the one I call my own. I am still antipating the 'real' photos you, or someone els...

 By: 4Js : April 2nd, 2013-16:33
Gaeten told me the manufacture did not want to do slate dials. They felt the readability was too poor. It came up during a discussion on the dato perp WG vs the newer RG. I presume this is why Fx 75 times was not enough! I personally love all variants of ...

I could like it just for

its appearance - although the expanses of empty space below the IX and III markings, more than in the Pt version, emphasize the largeness of the dial and therefore of the watch. but NOT for the smoothly running central seconds hand - if they had done that...

You juuust got away with this "Lapsus" :-)

By: COUNT DE MONET : April 2nd, 2013-23:22
I like it! It looks very Lange-esque but yet so fresh, happy, confident ... nearly bubbly. And the technical aspect is only for the people who know and appreciate it: perfect understatement. Best Moritz

I like how the 15, 30, 45 & 60 markers are in blue

I would love to have this watch...

I like this very much!

 By: KIH : April 2nd, 2013-20:43
Even though the size has been always the issue for me, I could want to get this one. Very nice - could have been launched much earlier, though.... But so nice nonetheless. Ken

 By: optionc : April 3rd, 2013-03:48
I wish it were in honey gold... then my wish would have been granted and I would be back in line to get an RL... I miss my PT very, very much. In my humble opinion, it was near perfect. Size, weight, blued steel second hand, handwound, etc. This version i...

honey gold - yes!

 By: amerix : April 3rd, 2013-09:58
That could make a pilgramige to their boutique in Dresden worthwhile. The loss of my PT fills me with sorrow, if not a cause for grief, for it was competing on the wrist for equal time with the RL PLM - which keeps no better time !!! So have a laugh, you ...

Sorry Kong, there is nothing so special about this Special Edition.

Has Lange ran out of idea? That is not a good sign. I hope Lange is not following the steps of some other brands. Regards Ling

Love it!

 By: vitalsigns : April 3rd, 2013-18:00
IMO, it doesn't need to be more special or different than the regular RLs. This is Lange at its finest--just pure watchmaking, now with more legible blue steel hands. John

Love it

Hi, I love this version, that's clearly exactly what we have asked for years. Blued hands for the white gold version are typical Lange. I just hope it will be logically priced like the pink gold version. Best Dje

for me the only problem with the PT RL

 By: donizetti : April 4th, 2013-12:37
has the shade of the Rhodie dial which I found too dark. So I find this combination quite attractive but would have preferred it in the PT case. Best Andreas

Thanks Kong, and this watch warrants a visit

to the boutique and possibly land one. I'm sold. Mech.

Thanks Kong..........

I have always admired the RL and what it stands for. But, personally, I just wished that I had the option of a different dial that didn't have Roman Numerals on...............Sorry

Love it!

...this is the watch I'm waiting for years! Last week I went to the boutique in Dresden but the watch has not arrived yet. It will be expected until end of April/May. So I cant't make some real life shots of this beauty. Watch will have no limitation and ...
