Live pics of the Lange Zeitwerk

Jun 17, 2009,12:44 PM

Today I have the great chance to see and to wear the Pt version of the Lange Zeitwerk thanks to Gaetan from Lange France.

I must confess I was not totally seduced by the Zeitwerk when I saw it through the press release. I found it a bit too strange, maybe a bit too far from the ideas I have of a Lange watch.

I was wrong.

The Zeitwerk is a pure Lange watch.

If you're a fan of the brand, don't miss the opportunity to see it.

It's a pure Lange watch because the finishings are flawless. The dial is pure and finally, the Rhodiumed German silver time bridge is a nice add-on (I was not convinced by it at the beginning).

It's a pure Lange watch because even if the pictured watch is a prototype, it is very close to the final version.

It's a pure Lange watch because you wind it with pleasure even if the crown position is not the most comfortable one (you touch the lugs while winding the watch but hopefully, the crown is smooth... which is a great achievement when you consider the specific mainspring).

It's a pure Lange watch due to the all-mechanical numeric display for hours and minutes which reminds us the Big Date system and of course, the Semper Opera clock.

It's a pure Lange watch due to the layout of the caliber L043.1. Look at it: you recognize at a glance that it is a Lange caliber even if... it's an unique caliber. And the constant force escapement brings a nice originality.

It's a pure Lange watch because it weights a lot but it is still comfortable on the wrist if it's well positionned. If you like heavy watches like me, this one is for you !

It's a pure Lange watch because even if its design is original, only Lange was able to create it. The numeric display, the lugs, the case, the power reserve, the hands are the proofs of the Lange design.

It's a pure Lange watch because it has a strange beauty... I don't know how to describe it. It's a watch you have to see in real to appreciate it and you have to put it on your wrist.

It's a pure Lange watch because you feel a sense of harmony. Everything is well balanced: the size is perfect for this type of complication (41,9mm and due to the thickness of the bezel, it looks smaller than it is). The watch is rather thick (12,6mm) but it's well proportionned.

You understand it, I was seduced by the watch, at least by the Pt version. I think that the WG version is maybe the most special one with the big contrast between the dial and the time bridge.

Again, if you're a Lange fan, if you have the opportunity to see it, don't miss it !

Well, enough bla bla, here are the pics !

My last words are for Gaetan for his kindness and for the time he spent with me. Lange has to be very proud of its french team (Gaetan and Julie).

I must admit that I was also not blown away by the press release photo's - it was little to different for my tastes, but after seeing your wrist shots, I am a Zeitwerk convert.

...I have when watching your brilliant photographs, Francois. But a sort of reversed reverso feelings, as my eyes start to glow when I see the watch´s backside, whereas I am fairly untouched by the front. The digital time display too is marvellous to...

Beautiful masterpiece, just as I expected...

Great report and photos.....I cannot wait to see it in metal. Cheers

I heard that a prominent US ALS AD does not have a single order for the Zeitwerk

 By: Craig LA : June 17th, 2009-21:10
The Zeitwerk is relatively inexpensive as ALS watches go and, yet, not a single order. What do you make of that? Craig

My AD has a customer ...

who buys all LE and special Lange&Söhne watches "unseen" (Lange-31, RL PLM, Tourbograph PLM) but he didnt order this watch. Cant wait for a Zeitwerk to land in my AD's displaycase. Edwin

These pictures make me weak in the knees. FX, your photos are so much more compelling than the press pictures. I stand by my earlier comments about this model. Thumbs up from me on this timepiece! I can't wait to see one in person! Thanks for the photos, ...

I have a strong feeling that....

I will love this piece once I try it on. Maybe for such design, a 'big' case is ok. To me, this is kinda like Urwerk/MBF made by Lange and with a Remontoir.....it's hard not to be attracted by such package. Oh my oh my....Foversta is to be blamed ;-) You ...

Nice report with great photos..............

I am still going to reserve judgement until I am fortunate, if ever to see it in the flesh.

It is a Lange, without a doubt.

Thanks What strikes me is that the PT model, despite being a LE of 200 pieces, doesnt show a LE number on the back! Edwin

Thanks for the great report Francois-Xavier

First Lange that really hits me, how many times have I said that. No date, no sweep seconds, what a relief. Just time, as it should be. GEO
