Shaping the "Collection"

Hi Follows, Last year I woke up and noticed that during the last 7 years I had been buying watches like a maniac. I also noticed that I had tens of watches I did not like to wear and those were just staying in the bank vault. It was also sad to notice tha...

First of all why didn't any of FedEx Couriers to CE turned at my door??? Seriously you have as you say 3 extra watches for your 2 week rotation so that means that you can still ship 3 to me Have you considered reducing a pain of letting go of watches via ...

I have an easy solution.

I have a fast turn over, and wear at least 3 to 5 different watches almost each week. But when I end my collection, then I'l see what I'll do. Certainly I will reduce it to a more human size. Enjoy what you have, till love for these pieces is here. Best, ...

Interesting question.

Not sure what I would do in your place, first of all I don't have as many watches though my wife considers I already have to many. Same as Nicolas I like to rotate several watches a week. I guess that when I get to 52 watches (Damian's magic number), I wi...

You are totally right!

It's a problem when a watch is just collecting dust. I have now reduced many watches from the "collection" which I really liked. But it's a bit problematic if I like to own a certain watch but don't like to wear it. In such a situation it's better to say ...

Let me reply with some quotes ...

about collecting: "Tell me what you collect, tell me how you collect, and I will tell you who you are." Jean Willy Mestach "Nobody can give you advice after you´ve been collecting for a while. If you don´t enjoy making your own decisions, you´re never goi...

That last quote . . .

Thanks Oliver for the quotes

which can be understood in several ways. The point is, however, that I do not want to collect. I just want to wear a bunch of watches I enjoy. Best, Kari

Sounds like you have to take (tough) decisions. Did it before and it was not that hard afterwards ... Oliver

There are good days and bad days.

Last week I managed to reduce the number but just now I'm considering getting something I have had in my mind for a couple of years. Have to decide tomorrow... Best, Kari

This is the key to understanding yourself

once you figure out your own rationale you can ratchet up or down your intensity. I collect watches but worry that much about getting around to wearing them. I'll wear 3-4 in a day if I get concerned about the "not using it" factor. I definitely collect f...

I know what you mean Kari...

as it did happen to me, but on a much smaller scale. I had few chronograph timepieces, divers, and an alarm one (JLC MMC). I finally realized that, for me, chronographs were useless, alarm function was a must and divers watches were there to stay because ...

Hi Yves,

The climate has gone nuts. In Lapland the winter is two months delayed and the same here in the "south". We got the first snow just two days ago and now it looks nearly like it should. We have just some 20 cm of snow and minus 2-8 degrees Centigrade, but ...

You've made a good start Kari

I also have consolidated my collection over the past couple of years. My consolidation was by far on a much smaller scale but the aim is the same, end up with a bunch of watches that I love to own AND be able to wear. Previously I've mentioned elsewhere t...

IMHO a great level of maturity. I agree completely with your statement " Now I am quite satisfied: my modest collection represents pretty well my understanding about different brands. In addition to that, each and every watch I own, will get some wrist ti...

I don't think "showing my collection" posts are generating much added value. I rather prefer to send some pictures when I have something to say about the watch. So surely all watches will be presented in a way or another during the coming years. Best, Kar...
