SIHH 2018: Montblanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph LE 100.

 By: amanico : January 18th, 2018-07:23
While walking through the window displays of the SIHH, there was one one watch which caught all my attention at the Montblanc Booth, the 1858 Monopusher Chronograph " Green ". My first feeling was " No, another 1858 Tachymeter! ". In fact, despite some co...

Very green!

 By: Fla25 : January 18th, 2018-07:38
Hi Nicolas, I think that the green one has for sure some personality (I also think I may not be the only one who compared this type of "all-green" to the hulk sub but anyway) and I also love the font of the dial numbers. What I still wonder is whether Mon...

Well, I got my first ( and only one ) Montblanc watch one year ago, or almost, the blue 1858 Tachymeter.

 By: amanico : January 18th, 2018-07:51
I didn't see myself getting a Montblanc watch, till I saw the blue. I don't mind the name on the dial, I mind the watch, the way it is made, the finishings, the charm. And on this ground, this is a champion. Now, Green is not everybody's taste. Indeed. Be...

Agree on the taste!

 By: Fla25 : January 18th, 2018-07:56
I was considering for this year a timewalker chrono utc, all black and less expensive, but also here it is "very black" Also agree on "it's not only about the brand on the dial", let's see them live first thank you for all your interesting threads! Cheers...

Great size, great movement - but I will pass due to the "green-ness"

 By: alphabeta81 : January 18th, 2018-07:45
They had the right idea for sure. But the green doesnt work for me, and I suspect doesnt work for others - thus the 100 pieces should sell well, but they had the chance to make this a mainstream non limited production piece and didn't - I think that's a m...

There may be another limited edition to follow

 By: KMII : January 18th, 2018-23:28
I think it’s a fair choice not to flood the market with an unlimited edition for Montblanc. They will need some more time to also establish a resale value of these and not having unsold pieces floating around is the right decision IMHO. Plus the 13.21 mov...

Green is not everyone’s color...

 By: seehoo : January 18th, 2018-08:29
but I like it! The live pics look even better...I’d change the strap though. Thanks for your insights,Nicolas!

Very nice dial (this green gradation is gorgeous) and mouvement but I hope they won’t “forget” the Devil’s tail. That would be a true mistake for me

 By: Alkiro1 : January 18th, 2018-08:45
Even if it’s nice, I still definitely prefer the 1858 tachymeter. Best wishes Alkiro

I cross my fingers 🤞

 By: Alkiro1 : January 18th, 2018-09:11
Best wishes Alkiro

This one is growing on me.

 By: M4 : January 18th, 2018-08:46
First, thanks for the superb report. Second, the green strap isn't the best, but in my mind's eye I can visualize other straps and they look good in my imagination. Third, lots to like with this one! As I said, it's growing on me. I'll have a few question...

Three questions.

 By: M4 : January 18th, 2018-10:05
First, what is the power reserve of I wasn't able to find it on the Montblanc website. Second, were you able to put it on your wrist? I've never considered the blue dial 1858 to be a large watch, even though it's 44mm. Somehow it wears just perfectly. I ...

Around 40 Hours, a bit more from memory. Yes, I was able to put it on my wrist, and it is the perfect size.

 By: amanico : January 18th, 2018-10:09
Yes, the buckle is the same. Let me come back on the size... I have zero problem with the 44 mm 1858 blue Tachymeter. But the 40 mm is more elegant on the wrist. Best, Nicolas

Thank you! [nt]

 By: M4 : January 18th, 2018-10:57

Will check on the power reserve for you...

As soon as I return from my travels

Thanks for your review and live photos! Appreciate it!

 By: mj23 : January 18th, 2018-09:11
I still prefer the 1858 tachymeter as a whole package though...after seeing your report...

Thanks for more info & pics Nicolas

 By: Joepny : January 18th, 2018-09:22
This is one that really captured my attention because I DO like the green dial color and the 40mm size is optimal. My thoughts: (1) the loss of the red accents is noticeable if you are a fan of the 1858 Tachy. I think those red accents make a subtle diffe...

Well, some good points, Joe. The pear shaped crown, the eaten numbers. Now, red with green, you'd better not be daltonian. ;)

 By: amanico : January 18th, 2018-09:49
As for the raised price, two years later, it is 3 000 Euros more than the Tachymeter. Still a bargain, but... One thing I like a lot on the 40 mm, the bevelled lugs. Much better than the 1858 Tachymeter. Best, Nicolas

Hehe 😄

 By: Joepny : January 18th, 2018-10:04
green with red can work. look at Gucci or the Portuguese flag. maybe not for everybody... ...

Well... ;) [nt]

Another 100 pieces of calibre 13.21 used ...

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : January 18th, 2018-14:47
yet we have Montblanc executives who don’t acknowledge they used to say each Villeret calibre is limited to 288 lots. At least a case here in Singapore according to another collector friend of mine. See Mike’s interview of Alex Schmiedt here . Before Davi...

I like the green dial

 By: beerstyle : January 18th, 2018-16:39
but I think this color would pair nicer with a bronze or yellow gold case. the price point is fair, considering how much I paid for my 13.21 movement watch, even though mine is white gold and enamel dial. My concern is that current collectors would be off...

I like it a lot —

 By: orahu : January 18th, 2018-17:08
no qualms with color combination—dial and strap—and the size is perfect, but out of my price range!

Thanks for this great report, Nico!

 By: KMII : January 18th, 2018-23:24
Seeing them side by side confirms my impression that it was the right choice to for the 40mm case and the 13.21 movement. Hopefully with the Devil‘s Tail as in the press pictures. Otherwise I am also wondering about the pusher shape. While Montblanc regul...

Soon :) [nt]

Yes, a very nice watch and I appreciated its size.

 By: foversta : January 20th, 2018-04:20
I will publish a wristshot in this thread later. To answer your question, I would say yes if you are a chronograph addict and no if you have a more versatile approach. Because in the end they remain two classic chronographs with two of the most beautiful ...

Here is as promised the wristshot

A beautiful piece. Fx ...

Very, very nice watch.

 By: VMM : February 3rd, 2018-13:41
Love the size. It would have been perfect (to me) with the monopusher IN the crown like its big brother. Thanks. Vte

Come on, stop smashing my dreams. :)

 By: VMM : February 4th, 2018-01:11
I'm pretty sure they could fix that. Un abrazo. Vte

They always can create a new caliber.

 By: VMM : February 4th, 2018-01:17
That's what they do, don't they? Shrinking is an option too, Vte

Wonderful summary!

 By: keks : February 4th, 2018-06:18
I really like this piece I must say. One question that spontaneously comes to kind is what audience Montblanc is looking to attract this year. This release is quite spectacular, then they also release the automatic chronographs priced 80% less. Es differe...

I want that devil's tail...

 By: patrick_y : February 7th, 2018-22:25
The pointy tail with its perfect anglage is something not to be missed...
