5270: Smaller Moonphase...
May 29, 2011,21:09 PM
5270 seems to have a smaller moonphase (in actual size, not only in proportion), as compared to 5970. It might be a compromise for lower position of the two subdials(seconds and chronograph minutes) of the new in-house chronograph movement (as the same lay-out in ref.5170), as well as for maintaining clear date numerals. Therefore, IMHO, 5270 has an overall odd lay-out aesthetically (too small moonphase in a big dial, unbalanced upper and lower parts, etc.)
Just my two percents.

this size by side comparison makes me realize even more how nice the 5970 is. IMO, the 5970 is still, by far, the ultimate perpetual chrono. Thanks,
Wow, great shots

comparing two of the ultimate perpetual/chronos. I have to say my nod goes to the 5970, with the ultimate look of complication, sportiness, and symmetry. The look on the wrist also appears more elegant than 5270, maybe the slightly smaller case accentuate...
The DNA has changed on the 5270 IMHO!
By: doublesix : May 28th, 2011-10:16
I had been waiting for someone to post a side by side pic of the 5970 and the 5270. In my opinion, the 5270, while not unattractive, does not have the same DNA as the 5970, 3970 or 5004. The dial has become too simple/clean and is more of a cross between ...
Two very different watches.
By: foversta : May 28th, 2011-10:37
The dial is very neat, very clear with the 5270: the two small windows allow the 5270 to use only one hand per subdial. But I also like the "busy" dial of the 5970, with the scale which gives a "sports" touch. Each watch has its own charm... but I still t...

A few weeks ago I made the same comparison, a 3970P white dial was also there. Honestly, in metal the 5270 is much nicer than on pics imho! I will never sell my 5970P, but I want to own a 5270 one day. What do you think after having seen the watches in re...
Thanks Imran

Hi, Interesting shots indeed. I still can't decide, especially as I have not seen the 5270 for real. At least they have a different case, a different dial and a different calibre, so there's no reason not to own both! Cheers Dje

I prefer the 5970

I like the small hands for the leap year and am/pm indicators over the holes on the 5270 and the dials are too plain for me without the subsidiary hands.
