During my last trip to Europe a few months ago, I pulled the trigger on the 5496P Perpetual Calendar Retrograde and made a post under the heading "Accidental Tourist". Nico laughed at me and we agreed that "Impulsive Tourist" may be a better title I promi...

Wow Sam, you pulled the trigger, that was no gun man...

Wow, your collection includes some of the most desirable watches in my wish list... Patek 5496P, Dato Perpetual, Perpetual 1, Upside Down, Laurent Ferrier... This is the micro-rotor and not the Tourbillon, right? I am speechless. Thanks for sharing!

great collection...

I have always wanted to lay my hand on a 5050, now that I see yours, I'm 'confused' hahaha. Would you enlighten me the difference, in your own opinion between the 2 greats? Cheers Mech.

The main difference is size, IMO

 By: samwan : February 19th, 2013-03:42
in other words, how it feels on the wrist. I can also name a dozen differences on the dial but frankly, I have always preferred the 5059 to the 5050, perhaps because of bias towards Roman indices :) Please note that the 5496 has the same movement as the 5...

Question?

 By: descartes1 : February 23rd, 2013-07:58
First-- Kudos on a first class collection! Second-- May I ask what type/brad box your watches are in. I have been looking for a leather box with a flap/sleeve for protection like yours has and it is not easy to find. Thanks.

Boxes like these are commonly found in Hong Kong

I have found them in watch accessory shops everywhere. Those that hold watches with leather straps flat (i. e. not with deployant buckles) are more difficult to find, based on my own experience.

question on moonphase display

 By: joenghenry : February 23rd, 2013-18:51
Hi, Sam, Congratulation to your great collection! 5496P has been one of my favourite PP perpetual! May I ask for your help regarding the moonphase display in your 5496P? I have a 5159R, which has the same 324 retrograde perpetual calendar with moon phase ...

I saw your other post on the question Henry

 By: samwan : February 23rd, 2013-22:06
but frankly I never paid attention to this particular detail. Now that you pointed the issue out, I will monitor the 5496 and get back to you. But since it uses the same movement as the 5159, i would be surprised if the performance is different... Regards...

Thank you very much, Sam.

 By: joenghenry : February 23rd, 2013-23:14
Initially I also don't pay much attention to this issue, as I expect 5159 to behave the same as my other annual calendars. It surprised me when I found it behaves differently during setting up the watch yesterday. I just came across an old post in this fo...

Sam, thanks a lot!

Your just spared me from calling the PP service center (again).

I must say I have a problem with many PP watches regarding the style mainly, and sometime movement but that's another issue. But I must say you shot right in the middle, from my point of view oc. It's a very appealing version, aesthetically and with this ...
