Part 4: visit of the Manufacture
Dec 09, 2012,01:33 AM
It was my first visit at the Manufacture in Glashütte since 2005 and a lot of things have changed! New buildings, more people, Lange keeps growing in terms of capacity and skills. But of course, the objective is to keep a limited production in order to preserve the quality.
Sadly, I couldn't take pictures inside the production and assembling units.
What I can tell you is that i'm always surprised by the youth of the watchmakers.
Even if you are below 30, you can work on the Tourbograph if your skills allow to do it. It is a very positive message and management style I don't see very often in the watchmaking world. Thanks to the watchmaking school, Lange is constantly preparing its future and I would say that we can feel and touch it now.
I saw a funny fact: when we entered the Zeitwerk assembling unit, 90% of the watchmakers inside were young ladies. So I asked if the Zeitwerk was requiring some special skills. Of course, it was a coincidence that day but I found the view of the workshop very charming especially taking into account that the Zeitwerk has the image of a powerful watch. It is proof that with a delicate approach, you can handle and control such energy!

Thanks a lot for the availability of the staff at the Manufacture, we know that it is not easy to work with people walking around the workbenches!
