A Function Question
Apr 01, 2013,09:27 AM
Excellent post, Francois!
I do have a question however. With the new generation of perpetual chronos, Patek took a massive step.....backward. Previously with the 3970 and 5970, all calendar indications could be advanced one day with a pusher at 11 o'clock. Thus, when the watch was stopped for a period (and as a manual wind that for sure is going to happen), re-setting was a breeze. Just push the 11 o'clock pusher to reset everything. With the new generation that vital bit of functionality disappeared. Now when the watch has wound down every single indication has to be manually advanced one-by-one. Ugh.
Lange in the Dato Perpetual is even better. Instead of fishing for a resetting tool (a toothpick is my preferred), there is a nice pusher at 11 with is disabled when the crown is in, but becomes active when the crown is pulled that resets everything by one day for each push. Voila! An even better resetting mechanism.
At SIHH I forgot to ask whether the new 1815 split carries over a system for resetting all indications together. If it has that functionality, that is a HUGE plus for Lange in this comparison.
Did anyone think to ask the question about the 1815 split?
