Part 4: PG Datograph Up & Down
Feb 01, 2015,02:27 AM
If you remember well, the nickname of the Datograph PG & Black Dial was the "Philippe Dufour" because the famous independant watchmaker is a proud owner of this watch. So here is... the Datograph "Philippe Dufour" 2015!
More seriously, it was expected to see a different version of the
Datograph Up & Down only availble in Platinum since its introduction.
The choice of a silver dial would have been possible but I find that the use of the black better because it highlights the dial lay-out and the triangle built by the two subdials and the date display.
I have to confess that I love this watch because it has a strong personality thanks to the contrast between the dial and the case.
The superb finishings of the dial and the movement make this watch very attractive.
I've always thought that the power reserve indicator was well integrated on the dial and I didn't change my mind:
The beauty of the movement L951.6. It has a power reserve of 60 hours and a 2,5hz frequency.
The watch on the wrist. Thanks to its higher diameter (41mm) / thickness (13,1mm) ratio, it looks much slender than the first Datograph:
The presentation of this watch gives me the opportunity to speak about the
new folding clasp. Actually the watch comes with a buckle but the Datograph I handled at the booth was equipped with this two blades folding clasp.
It is good news. This folding clasp is much more comfortable than the single blade one and I didn't have to reverse it to wear the watch!
On the other hand, I would expect clasp with more material, I felt it was a bit too thin. Nothing wrong about its elegance and its comfort but a feeling that it can be improved in its perceived quality even more when I consider the future price of this clasp (I don't know it exactly but they are always expensive).
Anyway, the PG version of the Datograph Up & Down seduced me thanks to its charm, its warm and its flawless execution.
