I absolutely think this is just such an under appreciated difference. It adds finesse and flair to the watch greatly. If the 5212a had a printed dial it would have lost all its charm. Here’s mine saying hi

Regardless of "real hand-sketched" or not, those dials are very fun to look at and an intersting idea. Personally, I like the plain Automatic dial more than the Chronograph dial. You can Google "Finissimo sketch dial" if you aren't sure what I am talking ...

Just a rumor I heard. The dial was presented as a prototype and Thierry Stern like what he saw so much that he what it reproduced exactly as the prototype which was in fact had drawn. Sounds plausible to me.
