A 2-watch collection from Patek Philippe : all periods, budget $1m
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2018-00:57
Imagine that you could choose a 2-watch collection from Patek Philippe (i am pushing this lower and lower every time!). The only limitation is that there needs to be some financial limitation on what you can choose as 2499s need to come off the table. So,...
For me this is quite simple
By: sham1 : June 4th, 2018-01:12
my two would be my ever faithful 7200R London Edition and the holy grail 5531R. And if I have gone over budget Joe, I would forego the 5531R for one of the ten 5029R out there My beloved 7200R London Edition How not to go nuts over the 5531R?!! A rare 502...
My swimming trunks Joe!! :-)
By: sham1 : June 4th, 2018-01:19
I would not wear a watch to swim (and I do swim twice a week) or when I play squash (4 times a week) probably as I try my best to keep my watches in as good condition as possible while wearing them! The fact that I am a partial to leather strap watches de...
Yes, i can see that.....
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2018-01:16
Both can actually work formally and casual too. Yoi also have travel covered.
Patek only?
By: zabreg1 Mr White : June 4th, 2018-01:20
Tough. But I would go with a black dial 5078P and 5650G. I would have answered the same as you, but we need at least some difference.
No, the black is lacquered.
By: zabreg1 Mr White : June 4th, 2018-01:32
Good point. Maybe the white email dial, in that case (though black dial is more my style).
Oh yeah, i like that
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2018-01:49
I am not a fan of the Nautilus but the 3700 is the icon for me of that genre. Great combination.
5650g
By: uaewatchguy : June 4th, 2018-04:47
Iqbal
Very hard to choose.
By: afl : June 4th, 2018-02:05
But I go with 5726 in bracelet and 5970J. But just as a note, whenever Baron says put the third one, it will be 5213G. ...
Quite difficult to cover all occasions with Just two watches.
By: nafetS : June 4th, 2018-02:29
But I think it would currently be 5370P and 5976 for me. I'm not really into calendar complications and I really Like chronographs. The 5976 is from my Point of View the best sporty chronograph in the lineup, even though IT IS white gold. Not perfect, but...
:-)
By: Thy1r : June 4th, 2018-02:49
First choice would be 5164a But then I’m stuck on the second choice... shall I go for 5078g, 3970p, 3940j, 5131j or 5110p ?!?!?!? ...
Haha
By: Thy1r : June 4th, 2018-03:25
Ok then 5164a + 3970p !!!
Almost an easy answer...
By: Mike H : June 4th, 2018-02:58
......I’ll start with the one you have no doubt about, I cannot imagine not having my Wonder Watch in the list Of course for the second one the choice is more difficult to make but since you gave clear rules for the game I’ll go for the 5970 P. Of course ...
This is so much easier in theory Joe
By: KamalRostov : June 4th, 2018-03:00
I got my casual/sporty/ travel covered with this The difficult bit is the business/dress/formal end... as I’m secretly having an affair with this one
3448G
By: beejo : June 4th, 2018-03:18
And a 5167! Best, Ahmed
I could do this, for far less than $500k!
By: Jay (Eire) : June 4th, 2018-04:09
Everyday comfort and wearability, with complication, would be the Nautilus Perpetual 5740. And if I wanted I could swim in it, that said I have a Garmin 920xt for swimming and other sports. The other choice would be a 3970 Perpetual Chronograph. Not sure ...
yes.....
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2018-04:23
.....some really beautiful watches in this range
Hi Baron, nice thread
By: Tyo : June 4th, 2018-04:28
My choice will be simple, sorry but even if you put a high financial cap, I can not get away from the cost of these beautiful pieces and I have chosen only watches financially targetables for me but pieces I truly enjoy I have simple tastes Patek Philippe...
Fun game... I'll play...
By: keks : June 4th, 2018-05:00
Your duo is spectacular and I would have to agree on it.... but I would have to have a steel piece.... 1) 5650G as you may suspect already.... if this had been made in steel my second choice would have been somewhat different perhaps... 2) 570A with Bregu...
I would say these (two)...
By: dom007 : June 4th, 2018-05:28
1. The 5950a black dial, an elegant and discreet chrono. 2. The 5650G, a sporty all-rounder. But as all good things come in three, I really don't know how I can do without the 5740G... With these three(!) pieces I will cover all kind of my needs: a chrono...
i wonder.....
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2018-05:33
.....how many Patek owners who own the 5650 would leave it off their 2-watch list?
So far four current 5650 owners have replied....
By: keks : June 4th, 2018-05:52
And all included this as one of their two. Do we have any owners here that would not include it? Also, so far nobody who does not own one has included a 5650 in their theoretical top 2.... somewhat interesting...
Two modern steel Pateks 5960A & 5711A
By: Joepny : June 4th, 2018-06:07
I want to restrict myself to only PP watches that I’ve worn or tried on in the past. Otherwise of course I would go for the Grand Complications. So the 5960A black and the 5711A white. The 5650G is definitely half in/half out. I’ve tried it on courtesy of...
I love the aesthetics of the 5960G
By: Joepny : June 4th, 2018-10:42
Have seen it in the metal a few times now. The denim blue dial looks fantastic. I just am not convinced by the white gold metal case. I don’t like how easy it is for gold to get scratched. With the 5960G, I imagine that I would play with different straps....
It's impossible just
By: CL : June 4th, 2018-07:46
to choose 2- watches , all coming from Patek. I will feel really bored and will start feeling the watches are boring. I love the 2-watches theory but it will never just from Patek. So if my two watches collection must have one Patek, it will be PP 3448 Ye...
Two watches from the same brand, huh?
By: TheMadDruid : June 4th, 2018-09:36
And not the brand I favor most. But that doesn't mean I couldn't do it. If I could only have two watches, and both had to be Pateks, I'd take any Aquanaut within reach, and your 5970P. There you go.
I guess it doesn't have to be
By: TheMadDruid : June 4th, 2018-10:44
but yours is the only one I know exists. That eases the burden of finding one.
Thank you
By: Gelato Monster : June 4th, 2018-10:03
Unfortunately nothing for swimming but that's OK. I ll just use my shearwater.
Interesting thought, Baron
By: blomman Mr Blue : June 4th, 2018-10:42
Of the two you choose... For me the 3448 would absolutely be part of the two! While the 5650 would absolutely not... Best Blomman
And No.5 falls into place!!!
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2018-11:27
Just Kari left now. 5980....great deliberation and evaluation. Oddly, I didn't find it as hard as I thought. So, 5 from 5 who actually own the 5650G are putting that watch in their 2-only collection. To be honest, that is quite remarkable. Before I owned ...
I share 5980's sentiment for the 5980/1A....
By: keks : June 4th, 2018-11:39
it has for years been my "go to" watch.... my "steel Daytona" for regular wear.... it is such a versatile piece. But the 5650g is just a step more special.... there is so much to like there. I still find the second piece incredibly difficult to narrow dow...
5204P is an obvious candidate.... a piece I truly admire...
By: keks : June 4th, 2018-11:35
it is far less formal in spirit than one initially thinks for being a grand complication. With those two you got all complications and occassions covered.... and the 5980 can jump in when nobody is looking (it is my "go to" watch as well.... ). Now you go...
true...
By: keks : June 4th, 2018-11:52
but since the exercise involves 2 watches from Patek... my thinking start to go around what other watches I would have in the collection if only 2 would be PP.... but the 5650G would be one of the two from PP in any case...
Yep that would be me done.
By: Miles_151 : June 4th, 2018-15:05
I would have what I believe to be the best Watches made by Patek in the semi affordable range. M.
👍 yes exactly...
By: Mike H : June 4th, 2018-15:09
...SEMI affordable range, LOL 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Could easily be one of my two
By: keks : June 4th, 2018-23:53
Especially if limit was lower on the duo. Then 5980/1A and another regular production non-grand complication would be perfectly acceptable ...
I hardly ever post in the PP forum..
By: Echi : June 4th, 2018-19:23
But do lurk. And here I come out from hiding as I cannot resist such a challenge Easy enough to max out Baron's suggested shopping money but I am unable to stray from my working class sensibilities. I'm not sure when a Patek will ever grace my wrist but t...
Echi.... I am happy to have lured you
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2018-23:32
And I very much understand your choices. Practical yet covering so many bases. The 5164 is a very versatile watch. Fun even. The 5196 is a beautiful formal watch but actually totally usable in a casual environment too. Best Joe
5370p [nt]
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 4th, 2018-23:28
I have to say......
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 5th, 2018-00:15
....the alternative would be 5970P because of its level of complication and ease of wear. But 5370P would be hard to ignore
Indeed two ultra heavyweights....
By: keks : June 5th, 2018-00:42
That is a cool duo with strong contrast and both exemplifying strong PP dna in different ways... in my modest collection however I think I could do with just keeping my 5650 and 5131J.... if the exercise was a 2 watch collection from current holdings that...
for me...
By: salihyoluc : July 14th, 2018-16:34
it must be the 5711/1P (not the anniversary one, the original one) and 5074P black dial.
