Whatever you choose Ben....

You are still my bro and I will support your decision smile

You have short listed too very strong contenders and both are great watches!
Can't go wrong with either

As I know a bit on your collection, I do think the Lange helps diversifies your collection a bit

Good luck and keep us updated smile

Cheers

Eyeing the Lange 1815 Chronograph - Some Questions

 By: benlee338 : September 30th, 2014-03:48
Need some advice here. I have been itching to add a new watch to my collection and has been for past several months considering various options. My search has narrowed down to 2 watches and one of them is the Lange 1815 Chronograph in Rose Gold. It will b...

I see you focused the right issues.

Hi Ben, Well to start with, I had a 1815 in RG, I was (and still am) looking close to 1815 Chrono and Datos (or 5170 at a time) and I possess a 5712. You pointed something right: many people will say the Dato is an iconic Lange etc, which is true. But, th...

Not qualified to answer..

Since I do not own a Lange chrono yet (in fact any chrono).. But here is what I think.. The 2nd gen 1815 (which you are considering), was released earlier than the new dato. In 2010 I think. Compared to the old dato, it also has a longer power reserve and...

Ben, I did a comparison between the two a few years ago..............

I have had the original version of the 1815 Chrono for about 4 years and just bought an original Dato last week. When I have some time this week I'll post an update but I can tell you that my opinion has not really changed from when I penned that article....

Well done!

I think whichever watch you buy will be a great buy and I see many of the replies above have covered many relevant areas thoroughly. I would like to address the areas of size and weight, both of which I believe are very important as you will be wearing ei...

Consider the weight and dial style

I don't think you can go wrong with either the Datograph or the 1815 Chrono (to me both of these watches easily beat out the Patek with their stunning movement). Price shouldn't be an issue since you can easily find a 403.032 / 403.035 Datograph for the s...

Another observation

I think you basically answered your own question when you wrote that the 1815 chrono is comfortable to wear. Together with its superior quality movement, you would be acquiring arguably the most beautiful chronograph movement. If you were actually contemp...

One more collector's perspective

Hi Ben, First of all, congratulations on thinking about the 1815 Chronograph in RG. I have been collecting Lange pieces since 1999 and over the years have been fortunate to own both the original PT Datograph and the WG 1815 Chronograph. While I enjoyed bo...

Many Thanks!

For all the suggestions and insights. I am inching closer to getting this watch. Actually, I have one on reserve from my AD. I am previewing the Patek 5712R this Friday and that can still change my mind. Hard choices! Replying to an earlier question, I th...

No comparison 1815 Chrono vs 5712 RG if you don't need the date

 By: tahoeblue : September 30th, 2014-21:21
In regard to that decision, it should be 1815 Chrono all the way. (And later add a 5712 stainless, and you will have your "sport watch" covered.) And please also realize that the 1815 Chrono is not a Datograph-light. Dato is certainly more the icon, for w...

Two completely different watches...

...at least aesthetically. Movement side these watches are very similar with the Dato just having the big date feature. The 1815 is the more elegant and understated watch with a very good size of 39.5mm. It wears very comfortably (I have the white gold ve...
