Some olives anyone?

This past weekend the weather cleared up significantly for lots of people in the southern Lazio area to go out and pick olives. The season started a bit earlier due to weather, and the fact that
if the olives a left to mature a bit more, they'll start getting infected with insects, so this year it promises to be a spicy and sharp olive oil!
The olives you see are a about an 80% Leccino, 15% Moraiolo and 5% Pendolino. Each year the % 's vary with the output of the trees, most farmers in the Lazio have this varied mix of trees so that if one kind
doesn't yield much, the other does. Unlike in Catalonia where the olives are hand picked and usually placed a sac you carry, here in Lazio the like to keep their trees rather tall and use rakes to bring them down.
I still like climbing up the tree and getting at them by hand. The difference here is that the ground is covered with grass so the olives don't get ruined. In most places in Catalonia the ground beneath the trees is kept to a harsh dirt that can break the olives.

Besides picking them, the hardest thing is getting a slot at the press to have the oil produced! At the very end you'll see a photo of freshly pressed oil. For the first month or so it stays quite sharp and green, then it starts turning a more amber color.

Definitely whet my appetite for some olive oil just now You should take pictures of some of your own creations on the olives, too! I\'m sure they would fit just as well as the RO!

:) Fun idea!

It was supposed to rain so I thought I'd just bring one watch, but then the weather opened up and we were out climbing trees. Let's see if this weekend I bring out one of the Coggiola pieces

Would be great :) [nt]

The first photo with the Salmon - what a perfect backdrop for the watch! The activity itself, I wish I could be there to do it. Thank you for sharing. PS - if we still had a masthead photo on the forum, I would immediately change to your image!
