Patek 5712/1A Bracelet comfort question.

Jul 28, 2018,07:45 AM

Dear Fellow Patek enthusiasts.

I recently tried on a Patek 5712/1A and found the links on the bracelet a bit abrasive due to the sharp corners facing the skin. With fingers, one can definitely feel the sharpness on the corners of the links. It also feels a bit razor like on my skin and hair.

Surprisingly, the outer sides are nicely smoothed (finished) out and looks very nice. With fingers, it clearly feels smoother than the side facing the skin.

I have been reading about the great wearing comfort of the steel bracelet of 5712 (and 5711 also). So I was a bit surprised to feel the sharp edges of the bracelet.

In addition, I also noticed VERY sharp edges on the case connecting to the bracelet. Fortunately these sharp edges do not touch the skin to cause any concern,  It appears that this part of the case is what comes out from the CNC machine directly without any finishing. I was again surprised by this rushed production coming from Patek.

The image below shows the issues I am referring to. Both the bracelet, which is important for wearing comfort, and for the case for rushed manufacturing.

I will appreciate hearing of your experiences with the wearing comfort of the bracelet of the 5712/1A.

Many thanks.

Jim

Great comfort, no issues. Never experiences any discomfort with the case links you describe, my bracelet is sized to give a few mm space between the edges and the skin.

No issues on my side, I'd be one of those leaning towards singing the high praises of the 5711/12 bracelet.

I don't find an Oyster or Jubilee uncomfortable in any way, but the modern iterations are just heavier and thicker. The 5711/12 feels more like the 1970's Oyster bracelet I have on 16750, it's thin and light and barely noticeable. Of course some have the ...

The 5712 is one of the most comfortable watches I've ever worn (if not the most)

The bracelet feels just wonderful on the wrist, like a second skin. The only "con" I see is the lack of micro adjustment system, so you need to find the proper length to fit you in both cold and warm weather. In my case, my wrist changes a lot and is not ...

Never had any comfort issues

with the bracelet.

Sounds like you are wearing the bracelet too tightly

IMO it shouldn't dig into the skin.

Never noticed any problems...

I'll pay more attention the next time, but I always considered the Nautilus 5711/5712 to be one of the most comfortable of all watches to wear.

It is supremely comfortable

But the clasp can be annoying, and lack of adjustability is a drawback, albeit relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. This is my inpression from several try-ons - I don’t own one - and wouldn’t hold me back from purchasing.

i own a 5980/1A and both sides of the bracelet edges are finished in the same manner and both are smooth

Do you think you might have a piece that slipped through QC? It is perfectly normal to have a pretty 'distinct' edge in places with small radius, but no burrs should be present. In terms of surface roughness a non dressed raw filed or CNCd feature will ca...

No Discomfort?

It's an extremely comfortable bracelet. There are no sharp edges?
