60k+ for this? I might rather bang my head against the wall until I faint.
Fully correct re font. I have no clue why they used that one.
The PP logo on the dial with the little plaque is found in that way on my 5130, so noting new here.
Hand look plain compared to 5130/5110. Almost like from a Rolex Datejust. Could be from any other watch.
Also: Sub-dial quite close to the centre of the dial. While everyone keeps moaning about this when discussing the spot-on timeless 5196, here it doesnt seem to be an issue. Well, PP fanboys. As long as the watch is new/big/expensive...
Finally: the overall style. From a distance, it looks a bit like a cluttered late 1960ies early 1970ies Omega/Tag. Where is the deadpan overly serious Pictet private bank style PP "house style"?
So, modern times. Someone will buy it. PP will make a nice profit. This keeps the whole show going. A bit like a Mercedes GT - attractive to a certain demographic, a lot of marketing blurb to reconnect it with the brand's heritage. I prefer authentic things from times when quality spoke for itself.
But I am conservative, almost reactionary. Why not let PP build a nice entry level model chrono with a 7750 Valjoux? And a James Bond astronaut watch. Make up some motorracing connection, maybe Steve McQueen also had a PP? Like Ferrari, build a second line of business selling PP poloshirts and baseball caps. What about Monsier Stern posing with a duckface on Instagram (#ruedurhonerocks)?
I am fine with it.
